The Waste Challenge in Healthcare

Ghana's healthcare sector generates over 15,000 tonnes of waste annually. Mismanagement creates serious public health and regulatory risks.

Clinical Waste Mixing

Clinical waste mixed with general waste creates cross-contamination risk and triggers EPA regulatory violations with fines up to GH₵ 50,000.

Irregular Collection

Inconsistent collection creates biohazard accumulation in waste rooms, violating both EPA Act 490 requirements and infection control protocols.

No Audit Documentation

Without proper waste manifests and disposal certificates, healthcare facilities fail EPA audits and risk operating licence suspension.

How PCM Solves This

Our integrated healthcare waste programme covers segregation, collection, transportation, and compliant disposal — with full documentation.

Segregated Collection (Colour-Coded Bags)

We supply and collect EPA colour-coded waste bags: Yellow (infectious/clinical), Red (sharps/cytotoxic), Black (general). Zero mixing guaranteed.

Hazardous Waste Licensed Disposal

Monthly licensed hazardous waste removal transported to EPA-approved facilities. Full chain-of-custody documentation for each consignment.

Dedicated Healthcare Bins

Regulatory Compliance

EPA Act 490 — Healthcare Waste Provisions

Requires licensed haulers for clinical waste. PCM holds current EPA healthcare waste hauler licence (No. WH-2014-0047).

LI 1652 — Hazardous Waste Requirements

Healthcare facilities must document all hazardous waste from point of generation to licensed disposal. PCM provides complete manifests.

Act 917 — Hazardous Wastes Control & Management

Sharps, cytotoxic waste, and pharmaceutical waste are regulated under Act 917. PCM is licensed for all categories.

⚠️ Penalty for Non-Compliance

Fines up to GH₵ 50,000 + imprisonment for hospital administrators. Operating licence at risk. Use a licensed hauler — PCM.

"The segregated collection service is exactly what we needed for EPA compliance. PCM's team is professional and their documentation for audits is impeccable."
